How to take

Adult dose

As sodium alendronate, take 70 mg once a week in the morning with a sufficient amount of water (170 to 230 mL) at least 30 minutes before consuming food, beverages, or other medications. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication and until the first food intake. Take the medication as soon as you wake up in the morning, and do not take it before bedtime or upon waking up. If you forget your scheduled dose, take 70 mg the next morning.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the upper gastrointestinal mucosa, so patients with esophageal conditions such as esophagitis or esophageal ulcers must be cautious while taking it. When taking this medication, it should be taken with sufficient amounts of water and the patient should not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. If symptoms of esophageal issues such as dysphagia, odynophagia, pain behind the sternum, or heartburn occur, the patient must stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Patients with delayed esophageal clearance, hypocalcemia, severe renal impairment, pregnant or nursing women, and individuals with certain hereditary metabolic disorders should not take this medication. This medication should not be chewed or sucked in the mouth, and it is also advisable not to take it before bedtime or upon awakening. During treatment, adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D should be ensured, and it is advisable to maintain weight-bearing exercises and healthy lifestyle habits. Side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, musculoskeletal pain, headaches, dizziness, and skin rashes may occur, and any unusual symptoms should be reported to a doctor. There may be interactions with other medications, so caution is needed, especially when taken with calcium supplements, antacids, aspirin, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and nursing women should not take this medication, and safety in children and adolescents under 18 years has not been established. Elderly patients can take this medication, but they may be more sensitive and require caution. In case of overdose, symptoms like hypocalcemia and gastrointestinal adverse reactions may occur, therefore the prescribed dosage should be strictly followed, and immediate medical attention is necessary in case of overdose. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and it is advisable not to transfer it to other containers.
