This medication is used for herpes simplex virus infections, particularly for primary and recurrent genital herpes and labial herpes occurring around the lips. It helps to alleviate blisters and inflammation caused by the viral infection, and slows the progression of symptoms. Treating symptoms early helps reduce discomfort and is effective in decreasing the frequency of recurrences. Therefore, this medication is used for the treatment and management of herpes simplex.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

This medication is applied to the affected area (diseased area) five times a day at approximately four-hour intervals. Treatment should be continued for five days; if not healed after five days, it can be used for five more days.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. It should not be administered to patients with known allergies or hypersensitivity to this medication or its components, as well as nursing women or children. Immunocompromised patients, such as those with AIDS or bone marrow transplant recipients, should use this medication with increased caution.
