This medication is used to control hypertension and to treat myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina or vasospastic angina resulting from fixed occlusion of the coronary artery.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken with an adequate amount of water. As esamlodipine, it is administered orally once a day at a dose of 2.5 mg, and may be increased up to a maximum of 5 mg per day according to the patient's response. The dose can be appropriately adjusted depending on symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to individuals with allergies to this medication or its components, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients in cardiogenic shock, patients with severe aortic stenosis, patients with unstable angina, recent myocardial infarction patients, patients with severe hepatic impairment, and patients with severe hypotension. Additionally, it should be used with caution in patients with very poor renal function, elderly patients, patients with acute heart failure, patients in hypertensive crisis, and patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment. While taking this medication, various side effects may occur. The most common side effects may include flushing and warmth, fatigue or swelling, rapid heartbeats, dizziness, headache, nausea, drowsiness, and others. Occasionally, symptoms such as dry mouth, excessive sweating, hypotension, fainting, muscle pain, insomnia, depression, skin rash, vision problems, and urination issues may also occur; thus, one should consult a physician if any abnormal symptoms appear. Abrupt discontinuation of this medication may worsen symptoms, so when stopping it, the dose should be gradually reduced under medical guidance. Moreover, patients with poor hepatic function may experience prolonged effects of this medication, hence caution is necessary. It is recommended to take this medication with sufficient water and to be cautious while driving or operating machinery as dizziness or fatigue may arise from lowered blood pressure. This medication can interact with various other medications, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers of any other drugs being taken. In particular, grapefruit juice can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect, so it is better to avoid it. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to use this medication as its safety has not been established. In case of overdose, severe hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias, or shock may occur, requiring immediate assistance from healthcare professionals. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers for safety.
