Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients allergic to amide anesthetics, chlorhexidine, or alkyl paraben. It is also safe to avoid applying it to damaged skin, eyes, and the area around the eyes. Direct use on the nervous system, such as the brain, spinal cord, and ears, should be avoided as it may cause auditory damage or neurological disorders. It is advisable not to use it in patients with porphyria, uncontrolled epilepsy, severe cardiac conduction abnormalities, and children under the age of 2. Caution should be exercised in cases where there is mucosal damage at the application site, sepsis patients, epilepsy patients, patients with conduction disorders, or liver dysfunction, patients with asthma or allergy history, and pregnant or nursing mothers. This medication contains propylene glycol, so patients with hypersensitivity to this component should be cautious. If symptoms of shock, low blood pressure, facial pallor, pulse abnormalities, respiratory depression, nausea, dizziness, etc. occur during use, it should be immediately discontinued, and appropriate treatment should be received. Serious neurological symptoms such as tremors or convulsions can occur, so if these symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately and professional treatment is required. Various neurological side effects like drowsiness, anxiety, dizziness, vomiting, decreased consciousness, hallucinations, headaches, etc. can occur, so careful observation is necessary. Cardiovascular abnormalities may present as hypotension, bradycardia, and arrhythmias, and respiratory difficulties may arise in the respiratory system. Hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rashes or swelling can occur, and rare cases of fatal anaphylaxis shock may occur, so if symptoms appear, use should be discontinued immediately. Overdosing may lead to problems such as urethral damage, and chlorhexidine can rarely cause contact allergic dermatitis or photosensitivity reactions. When using local anesthetics, it is advisable to be prepared for emergency treatment immediately and to check the patient’s condition thoroughly while using the minimum effective dose. When applying surface anesthesia in the airways, it should be used in small amounts due to rapid absorption, and trauma risks due to oral mucosal paralysis should be considered. Great care must be taken to ensure that the medication does not enter the tube during endotracheal intubation, and in rectal administration, overdose should be avoided. Application to damaged mucosal areas may increase drug absorption, so caution should be exercised. The component chlorhexidine can be minimally absorbed through the skin, but the risk of tissue damage cannot be completely excluded. It may cause positive reactions in drug tests for athletes, so caution is needed, and high blood levels can affect driving or operating machinery. This medication may have increased side effects when used in conjunction with antiarrhythmic drugs or pethidine, so caution is needed when used together. Since chlorhexidine is a cationic antiseptic, it is advisable not to use it together with anionic substances such as soap. Safety has not been established during pregnancy, so it should be avoided during the first three months of pregnancy and should only be administered when absolutely necessary. Nursing mothers should avoid breastfeeding for about 12 hours after administration. In cases of overdose, appropriate treatment for neurological toxic symptoms should be received, and in cases of oral overdose, the drug should be removed via gastric lavage. Care must be taken to prevent contact with the eyes, and if it does come into contact, it should be thoroughly washed out with clean water immediately.
