Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer: Administer 10 mg orally once daily. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be administered orally once daily. This medication is used for the treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, and helps alleviate the symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also effective for long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease and is used in conjunction with antibiotics in patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori. It is also applicable for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, inhibiting excessive gastric acid secretion. Overall, it is used to improve problems related to the stomach and esophagus.

How to take

Adult dose

Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer: Administer 10 mg orally once daily. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be administered orally once daily. Administration is for up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcer and 6 weeks for duodenal ulcer. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg orally once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If untreated, an additional 8-week course of either 10 mg or 20 mg may be administered twice daily orally.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have allergies to specific ingredients or have experienced hypersensitivity reactions. Furthermore, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and patients taking certain antiviral or antibiotic medications should avoid administration. Caution is needed for patients with impaired liver function, the elderly, and those with a history of allergies. This medication can cause various side effects such as skin rash, itching, blood disorders, liver dysfunction, heart problems, and gastrointestinal symptoms, so if any symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Regular blood tests and liver function tests are required for long-term use. This medication may affect the absorption of certain other medications by suppressing gastric acid secretion, so consult a healthcare provider when taking it with other drugs. Care should be taken as drowsiness may occur while driving or operating machinery. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to take this medication, and safety in children has not been established. There are no specific antidotes for overdose, so appropriate treatment should be sought based on symptoms. This medication should be swallowed whole without chewing or crushing, and stored out of reach of children. The risk of bone fractures may increase with long-term use, and electrolyte imbalances such as hypomagnesemia may occur, so regular check-ups are necessary. If diarrhea persists during treatment with this medication, consider the possibility of Clostridium difficile infection and seek medical attention. Autoimmune diseases may worsen due to this medication and skin rashes may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a specialist.
