This medication is used to treat symptoms in adult patients with chronic constipation who do not improve with laxatives.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered orally and can be taken at any time of the day regardless of meals. The adult dosage is 2 mg once daily. For older adults aged 65 years and over, the initial dose is 1 mg once daily, which may be increased to 2 mg once daily if needed. For patients with severe renal impairment (GFR < 30 ml/min/1.73 m2) and severe liver impairment (Child-Pugh class C), the dose is 1 mg once daily.

Precautions

This medicine should not be taken by anyone allergic to its main ingredient or excipients. Patients with severely impaired kidney function or certain bowel diseases should not use this medication. Additionally, those with genetic conditions such as lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients with significantly reduced kidney function should use a reduced dose with caution. Patients with serious problems related to the heart, liver, lungs, or nervous system should also be careful when using this medication. Caution is required when taking this medication with drugs that affect heart rhythm. Common gastrointestinal side effects such as headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea may occur, typically first at the beginning and then resolve quickly. Rarely, symptoms such as palpitations, fatigue, or dizziness may occur; if symptoms are severe, consult a doctor. Severe diarrhea may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, so it is advisable to use additional contraceptive methods. The potential for drug interactions with this medication is low; however, caution is warranted when taken with certain other medications. Use of this medication during pregnancy is not recommended, and women of childbearing potential should use effective contraceptive methods. This medication is also not recommended for breastfeeding women. It is advisable not to use this medication in children or adolescents under 18 years old. Overdose may lead to side effects such as headache, nausea, or diarrhea, and appropriate treatment is required according to symptoms. On the first day of taking this medicine, dizziness or fatigue may occur, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery.
