Treatment of eye infections such as blepharitis and conjunctivitis
This medication is effective against various types of bacteria. It acts on staphylococci including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and penicillin-resistant strains, as well as certain Group A beta-hemolytic streptococci, β-hemolytic streptococci, and pneumococci. It is also effective against a variety of bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter, Proteus, Morganella, Haemophilus influenzae, Koch-Weeks bacillus, Acinetobacter, and Neisseria. This medication is used for the treatment of infectious diseases around the eyes such as blepharitis, dacryocystitis, styes, conjunctivitis, keratitis, and corneal ulcers. It helps to safely and effectively treat infections.
For mild to moderate infections, instill 1–2 drops into the infected area every 4 hours. In severe infections, instill 2 drops every hour until symptoms improve, then gradually reduce and discontinue. Adjust according to age and symptoms.
This medication is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, and should not be used by individuals who have had allergic reactions to this drug or similar drugs. As it is an eye medication, symptoms such as itching, swelling, redness of the eyelids, conjunctivitis, and a temporary burning sensation may occur, and use should be discontinued if these symptoms appear. Additionally, there may occasionally be a sensation of irritation or pain, so caution is advised. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria, it is advisable to check the sensitivity of the infecting organism and to use it for the minimum necessary duration. It is desirable to conduct a thorough medical history and skin reaction tests before use to prevent severe allergic reactions or shock. Long-term or repeated use may lead to resistance or excessive growth of other bacteria, so if these phenomena occur, use should be immediately stopped and appropriate treatment should be received. The ingredients contained in this medication should not be used with certain antibiotics, so consultation with a healthcare professional is essential if taking other medications. When using aminoglycoside medications systemically, careful monitoring of blood levels is necessary. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid wearing contact lenses to prevent the spread of infection. When instilling into the eyes, temporary blurred vision may occur, so it is safe not to drive or operate machinery until vision returns to normal. The risk of bleeding may increase when this medication is taken with anticoagulants, so blood coagulation status should be regularly checked and dosage adjusted if necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should use this medication only when absolutely necessary, and if breastfeeding, a careful decision should be made to stop nursing as it may be harmful to the baby. Excessive use may result in inflammation, redness, increased tearing, swelling, and itching in the eyes; if these symptoms occur, consult with the medical staff immediately. In case of overdose, monitoring of blood drug levels is necessary, and treatments such as hemodialysis may be required if necessary. This medication must not be injected directly into the eye and should only be used as eye drops. Finally, it is important to confirm the characteristics of the infecting organism before treatment as some organisms have shown resistance to this medication in the country.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be kept in a tightly closed container to prevent air and moisture from entering, and should be stored at a temperature between 1°C and 30°C. Proper storage helps to maintain the effectiveness of the medication.
