Simetron Injection (Simethicone Bromide)

Adult dosage

1. Gastrointestinal spasms accompanied by irritable bowel pain: Administer 5 mg of cimetropium bromide intramuscularly or intravenously as a single dose. 2. Premedication before examination: Administer 10 mg of this drug intravenously as a single dose over at least 40 minutes.

When using this drug in the case of glass ampule injections, caution should be taken when cutting the container to avoid glass fragments mixing with the injection. Special caution is required when using in children or the elderly. This drug should not be used in patients with allergies to the active ingredient or other components, prostatic hyperplasia, glaucoma, urinary retention, constricted gastrointestinal function, paralytic ileus, ulcerative colitis, megacolon, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and myasthenia gravis. Careful administration is required for patients with autonomic nervous system diseases, liver or kidney diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hyperthyroidism, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmia, hypertension, particularly in children with febrile seizures. Abdominal pain should be confirmed not to be related to myocardial infarction during injection. This medication may cause dry mouth, especially after administration as an injection. High doses may lead to difficulty focusing with the eyes, rapid heartbeat, and sensory disturbances. Urinary difficulties, increased intraocular pressure, headache, dizziness, flushing of the face, drowsiness, lethargy, constipation, nausea, and allergic skin reactions may occur. Drowsiness may occur during the use of this medication, so driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided. The injection contains sodium, so caution is needed regarding sodium intake. Using other antihistamines, phenothiazine drugs, tricyclic antidepressants, or anticholinergic drugs may enhance this medication's effects, so they should be taken separately. Using drugs that stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system may reduce or eliminate the effects of this medication. The safety of this medication in pregnant women or women who may become pregnant is not assured, so it should only be used when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. Safety has not been established in pediatric patients, and special caution is required when using this drug in infants due to the potential for central nervous system stimulation symptoms or respiratory issues. In case of overdose, professional emergency treatment is required, and specific antidotes should be administered. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided as it may cause quality degradation or accidents.
