Improvement of chronic constipation symptoms
This medicine is used to improve symptoms in adult patients with chronic constipation who have not responded to conventional laxatives.
This medication is administered orally and can be taken at any time of the day regardless of meals. Adults should take 2 mg once a day. For elderly patients over 65 years, the initial dose should be 1 mg once a day, which may be increased to 2 mg once a day as needed. For patients with severe renal impairment (GFR < 30 ml/min/1.73 m2) and severe liver impairment (Child-Pugh class C), the dosage should be adjusted to 1
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, patients with allergies to the active ingredient or excipients, patients with severely impaired kidney function requiring dialysis, patients with structural or functional bowel issues, and patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take this medicine. Additionally, for patients with severely impaired kidney function, the dosage should be reduced and administered cautiously. Patients with serious illnesses in the liver, heart, lungs, or nervous system, or those who are clinically unstable must also be monitored carefully when using this medication. Particularly, patients with a history of cardiac arrhythmias or ischemic heart disease should use this medication cautiously. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea, which typically occur at the beginning of treatment and diminish over time. Other reported symptoms include dizziness, fatigue, and palpitations. If new heart palpitations arise, consultation with a doctor is necessary. The use of this medication is not recommended during pregnancy, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception while taking this medication. Breastfeeding women are also advised to avoid this medicine. It is preferable not to use this product for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. In the event of overdose, symptoms may include headache, nausea, diarrhea, and treatment may be required based on the symptoms and appropriate electrolyte supplementation might be necessary. This medication may affect the ability to drive or operate machinery; therefore, caution should be taken particularly on the first day of administration if dizziness or fatigue is experienced. Finally, it is important to store this medication out of the reach of children and in its original container, away from moisture.
