Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive reflux esophagitis), treatment and prevention of recurrence of Helicobacter pylori positive peptic ulcers, and alleviation of upper gastrointestinal symptoms related to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
This drug is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive reflux esophagitis as well as long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It is also effective for treating and preventing recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It helps temporarily relieve symptoms related to the upper gastrointestinal tract (pain, discomfort, burning sensation) associated with the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In patients requiring continuous nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug therapy, it is also used for the treatment of gastric ulcers and for the prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers. Furthermore, it is effective for treating Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy after preventing rebleeding due to gastric or duodenal ulcers. Overall, this medication is widely used for the treatment and prevention of disorders related to the stomach and esophagus.
This drug should be swallowed with liquids such as water and must not be chewed or crushed. 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If esophagitis is not resolved or symptoms persist, continue for an additional 4 weeks. - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. - Treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis: 1.
Adolescents 12 years and older - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: administer 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If treatment is not effective or symptoms persist, continue taking for an additional 4 weeks. - Symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis.
This drug should not be used in patients with allergies to certain components or those who have had hypersensitivity reactions. It is also contraindicated in patients taking certain antibiotics or antivirals, those with a history of myocardial infarction, and nursing women. While taking this drug, various side effects may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms such as headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, skin rash, or muscle pain develop, consult a healthcare professional immediately. This drug reduces stomach acid secretion to aid in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, but it may slightly increase the risk of stomach infections, so if diarrhea persists, inform a doctor. Patients at high risk of fractures or with osteoporosis should regularly check their bone health, and those using this drug long-term should monitor their blood magnesium levels as electrolyte imbalances like hypomagnesemia may occur. Additionally, this drug can interact with other drugs, so it's essential to inform your healthcare provider about any medications you are taking, especially in cases of anticoagulants, antiepileptics, some antibiotics, and antivirals. The safety of this drug has not been fully established during pregnancy, so pregnant women should consult a doctor before use, and nursing mothers are advised not to take this drug. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so appropriate treatment should be received according to symptoms, and it should be stored out of the reach of children.
Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic reaction/shock, severe allergic reactions, skin or eyes turning yellow (jaundice), hepatitis, liver failure, encephalopathy, sudden and severe headache, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, severe neurological symptoms, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis.
