Improvement of blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes
This medication is used primarily in conjunction with meal and exercise therapy to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered when there has been no previous experience with diabetes medication and blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy. It is also used when replacing a combination of linagliptin and metformin, and may be administered with insulin if blood sugar control is insufficient with insulin and metformin. Finally, when blood sugar control is not achieved with a combination therapy of maximum dose metformin and empagliflozin, this medication may be used in conjunction with empagliflozin. This medication helps improve blood sugar control in various therapeutic situations.
The dosage of this medication should be determined based on each ingredient's maximum recommended dose of linagliptin 2.5 mg and metformin 1000 mg, considering the current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerability for each patient, not exceeding this limit. This medication should be taken twice daily with meals. 1. If currently not being treated with metformin: Take this medication 2.5/500 mg twice a day, one tablet each time.
This medication can cause a rare but serious side effect called lactic acidosis, so it should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function or to those with heart disease or liver dysfunction. Patients who are allergic to any ingredient in this medication, type 1 diabetes patients, patients with acute myocardial infarction or heart failure, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this medication. When using this medication, be alert for symptoms of hypoglycemia, especially when taken in combination with other hypoglycemic agents or insulin. Elderly patients with decreased kidney function or those with acute illness should undergo kidney function testing before administering this medication and should be regularly monitored. If iodinated contrast is used during radiological examinations, renal function may worsen, so this medication should be discontinued before and after the examination, and resumed only after kidney function stabilizes. Patients about to undergo surgery should stop taking this medication 48 hours prior to surgery and resume only after ensuring that kidney function has returned to normal. Acute pancreatitis, severe joint pain, or blistering skin conditions may occur while taking this medication; if these occur, consult a doctor immediately. Long-term use may lead to decreased vitamin B12 levels, so patients with anemia or neurological symptoms should be tested for vitamin B12 levels and receive supplementation if necessary. This medication increases the risk of lactic acidosis when taken with alcohol, so it is advisable to avoid drinking. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should preferably not use this medication and should consider alternative methods for blood sugar control. It should not be administered to children under 10 years old since safety and efficacy have not been established, and caution should be exercised when administering it to adolescents aged 10 to 17 years. Elderly patients are prone to decreased kidney function, so therapy should start at the minimum dose, with regular monitoring of kidney function. There is no available data on the effects of driving or operating machinery, so caution is needed when taking this medication. In case of overdose, the medication should be removed from the gastrointestinal tract, and if lactic acidosis occurs, immediate hospital treatment is needed, with hemodialysis being the most effective treatment method. This medication should be stored in a closed container to avoid moisture and direct sunlight, and it should be kept out of reach of children, ensuring not to transfer it to another container.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it must be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is best to maintain storage temperatures between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. This will help preserve the medication's effectiveness over time.
