This medication is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone or in combination with other medications to effectively help manage blood sugar levels.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Take 5 mg once daily, regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients with allergies to the active ingredient or other components. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution is required when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas that can cause hypoglycemia, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase. Use in patients with heart failure has limited experience, so it should be administered carefully. If severe abdominal pain, a symptom of acute pancreatitis, occurs while taking this medication, it should be discontinued immediately and a doctor should be consulted. A skin disorder called bullous pemphigoid may occur, so patients should be informed to report any blistering or skin irritation to medical personnel immediately. This medication can cause various adverse reactions such as hypoglycemia, gastrointestinal discomfort, skin rash, and arthralgia; if symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a physician. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not recommended, and consultation with a doctor is advised if necessary. Its safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently established in children and adolescents, so it is not recommended for this age group. Elderly patients or those with weakened kidney and liver function may use it without dosage adjustment, but caution is advised based on their condition. In case of overdose, remove any unabsorbed medication from the gastrointestinal tract and monitor clinical symptoms, providing necessary treatment.
