This medication is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise regimens to assist blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is effective for blood sugar control as a monotherapy and may also be used together with other diabetes medications as needed. This helps to stably improve the patient's blood sugar levels.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The recommended dosage for this medication is 5 mg once daily. It can be administered regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. It should not be administered to patients who are allergic to the active ingredient or other components, patients with type 1 diabetes, and patients with diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution is also required when used in combination with other medications that can cause hypoglycemia. Especially when used with insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, necessitating dosage adjustments. Experience with this medication in heart failure patients is limited, so caution is necessary during administration. Acute pancreatitis may occur while taking this medication; if persistent and severe abdominal pain occurs, it should be discontinued immediately and a doctor consulted. Additionally, a rare skin condition resembling bullous pemphigoid may occur, thus, if blisters or dermatitis appear on the skin, the doctor should be notified immediately. Other reported side effects include infections, gastrointestinal disturbances, skin rash, joint pain, etc. Its safety has not been established during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so its use is not recommended; breastfeeding women should exercise caution while using this medication. The safety and efficacy in children under 10 years of age have not been confirmed, so it is best not to be used in this population. It can be used in the elderly and patients with impaired renal or liver function without special dosage adjustments. In case of overdose, measures should be taken to prevent absorption of the drug in the gastrointestinal tract, and symptoms should be monitored, with necessary treatment provided. Finally, this medication should be kept out of the reach of children and it is safer and better for maintaining quality to avoid transferring it to another container.
