This medication is used for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee and adhesive capsulitis, which is an inflammatory condition around the shoulder joint.

How it is given

Adult administration

Typically, 1 injection per week for 3 consecutive weeks into the knee joint or shoulder joint (shoulder joint cavity, subacromial bursa or biceps tendon sheath), but the frequency may be adjusted according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to its components. It should be used with caution in patients who have a history of allergies to other medications or who have liver function issues or a history of such conditions. Caution is also needed if there are skin diseases or infections at the injection site. Severe allergic reactions, such as shock, may occur during treatment; if any abnormal symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment sought. Symptoms of allergies such as swelling of the face or around the eyes, rashes, hives, or itching may occur, and if these symptoms arise, treatment should be stopped and a doctor consulted. Transient pain, swelling, redness, warmth, and severe pressure sensation may appear at the injection site. Sometimes symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and fever may also occur, so caution is needed. Injecting this medication directly into an inflamed joint may worsen the inflammation, so it is better to treat the inflammation first before using this medication. After administration, stabilizing the affected area is helpful. If the medication leaks outside the joint, it may cause pain, so it is crucial to inject it accurately into the joint. Injections must be performed under aseptic conditions, and if symptoms do not improve, administration should be limited to three times and then discontinued. If fluid accumulates in the joint, it may need to be drained as necessary. This medication is not for intravenous administration or for use in the eyes. A syringe needle of about 22-23 gauge is appropriate to use. Care must be taken, as the medication may precipitate when used with sterilizing disinfectants. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication only when the benefits are deemed to outweigh the risks. This medication can be transmitted through breast milk, so breastfeeding should be avoided during treatment. Safety in children has not been established; therefore, it should only be used cautiously when necessary. Caution is needed for the elderly, as their physical function may be diminished.
