  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

Essential hypertension is a condition in which blood pressure remains persistently high, which can affect heart and vascular health. This medication effectively lowers blood pressure, reducing the burden on the cardiovascular system and helping to decrease the risk of complications. With consistent use, blood pressure can be controlled, contributing to an improved quality of life for patients. Therefore, it is used to treat essential hypertension.

Precautions

This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn when taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Individuals with allergies to the ingredients in this drug, pregnant women, nursing mothers, patients on renal dialysis, patients with severe liver dysfunction, patients with biliary obstruction, and those with specific genetic lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Caution is required when administering this drug to patients who are dehydrated or have low blood volume or sodium, as hypotension may occur. Patients with weakened kidney function or those who have undergone kidney transplantation should also have regular kidney function tests. Additionally, this drug should be used cautiously in patients with narrowed renal arteries, those at risk of hyperkalemia, or those with issues related to the aorta or heart valves, as there is a risk of low blood pressure causing dizziness, necessitating care during hazardous tasks. While taking this medication, side effects such as dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, muscle pain, and skin rash may occur, although most are mild and temporary. If chronic diarrhea or weight loss occurs, discontinuation of this drug and consultation with a physician is advised. Symptoms like abdominal pain or vomiting should also be monitored due to the possibility of intestinal vascular edema. When taken with other antihypertensive medications, potassium-sparing diuretics, or potassium supplements, blood potassium levels may rise, so blood tests should be conducted to monitor the condition. Patients taking lithium should avoid using this medication concurrently, and caution should be exercised when used with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as renal function may worsen. Pregnant women must avoid this medication due to the potential for serious side effects to the fetus and newborn. Nursing mothers should either discontinue breastfeeding or stop taking this medication to prevent effects on the infant. Its safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so it is not recommended for use in this population. Elderly patients may experience higher concentrations of this drug in the body, so caution is necessary during administration. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, palpitations, and bradycardia may appear; patients should inform medical personnel immediately for appropriate treatment.
