Treatment of inflammatory diseases of the external and anterior segments of the eye (such as blepharitis, conjunctivitis, etc.)
This medication is used to treat inflammatory diseases occurring in various parts of the eye, including blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids), conjunctivitis, keratitis, scleritis, and iritis. It also helps improve inflammation inside the eye, such as in scleritis, iridocyclitis, and uveitis. Due to its effectiveness in treating inflammation occurring after surgeries, it is used for addressing overall inflammatory issues of the external and anterior segments of the eye.
Instill 1 to 2 drops once, 2 to 4 times daily. Adjust as needed according to symptoms.
This medication should not be used by patients with viral keratitis, fungal eye diseases, mycobacterial infections, or chronic blepharitis. Patients with hypersensitivity to this drug should also avoid its use. It is generally not recommended for patients with corneal epithelium defects or corneal ulcers, those with tuberculous or purulent eye diseases, glaucoma patients, and infants under 2 years old, though it may be used cautiously in necessary situations. Long-term use of this drug may lead to elevated intraocular pressure, glaucoma, optic nerve damage, and vision deterioration, so regular intraocular pressure checks are necessary. Symptoms such as herpes simplex keratitis, keratomycosis, and Pseudomonas infections may appear, necessitating appropriate treatment. Care is needed when using this medication for corneal herpes or corneal ulcers due to the risk of corneal perforation. Rarely, cataracts can develop with long-term use, and immune response may be suppressed, increasing the risk of secondary eye infections. Caution is required as this drug may mask or worsen the symptoms if used during acute purulent ocular infections. Side effects can include inflammation, pain in the eye, mydriasis, conjunctival congestion, paralysis of accommodation, and ptosis. It also contains phosphate components, which can lead to corneal calcification in patients with severe corneal damage. Healing may be delayed, and it may impact wound healing after cataract surgery, so attention is needed. Long-term use may suppress pituitary and adrenal cortex function, requiring caution. If symptoms of hypersensitivity appear, use should be discontinued immediately. This drug should not be used in red eyes without a doctor's diagnosis as it can lead to blindness, and consultation with a specialist is mandatory. Patients with a history of herpes simplex require careful observation during the use of this drug. Regular intraocular pressure checks are essential even for children or uncooperative patients if used for more than 10 days. This medication is ineffective against mustard gas keratitis or Sjögren's keratoconjunctivitis. If inflammation or pain persists or worsens for more than 48 hours, immediate discontinuation and consultation with a physician are necessary. Contact lens wearers should remove their lenses before application and wait at least 30 minutes before reinserting them. It may temporarily blur vision after application, so driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided. Infection with varicella or measles can be life-threatening, so it is crucial to check medical history and vaccination status before using this medication, and if infection is suspected or occurs, immediate medical attention is required. Special caution is necessary for children and patients taking certain medications (such as Ritonavir, Cobicistat), as they have a higher risk of systemic side effects. When this drug is used in conjunction with CYP3A4 inhibitors, systemic exposure may increase the risk of side effects, necessitating careful monitoring. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid long-term or frequent use, and nursing mothers should refrain from using this drug or discontinue breastfeeding if it must be used. Safety for children and adolescents has not been established, so caution is warranted. Elderly patients may have diminished body function, requiring particularly careful use. This drug is for ophthalmic use only, and care must be taken to prevent the tip of the container from touching the eye during administration. It should be thoroughly shaken before use, and sharing should be avoided to prevent contamination. Store in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air and moisture. The optimal storage temperature is between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius.
