Treatment of ocular infections such as blepharitis and conjunctivitis
This medication is effective against various bacteria and is used to treat ocular infections such as blepharitis, dacryocystitis, stye, conjunctivitis, keratitis, and corneal ulcers. It is effective against several species of bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and penicillin-resistant strains as well as various streptococci and pneumococci. It also works against various gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae to help treat ocular infections. This drug is also effective against Haemophilus influenzae, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, and some Neisseria. Overall, this medication is used to improve various bacterial infections of the eye.
In cases of mild to moderate infection, instill 1-2 drops in the infected area every 4 hours. In severe infections, instill 2 drops every hour until symptoms improve, and then gradually taper off. Adjust according to age and symptoms.
This medication is an aminoglycoside antibiotic and should not be used in patients with an allergy to certain antibiotics. Since it is used directly in the eyes, use should be discontinued immediately if symptoms such as itchiness, swelling, redness of the eyelids, or conjunctivitis occur. Some patients may experience irritation or pain in the eye, so caution is necessary. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria, it is advisable to check the sensitivity of the infecting bacteria before treatment and use it only for the minimum necessary duration. Patients with a history of drug allergic reactions need to have adequate consultation and skin reaction tests before use. Long-term or repeated use may lead to resistance, so if the type of bacteria changes, use of the drug should be discontinued and appropriate treatment should be sought. This medication should not be used in conjunction with certain other antibiotics, so interactions with other medications being taken must be confirmed. Blood drug levels should be checked periodically to use it within a safe range, and blood dialysis or other measures may be needed if necessary. During treatment, avoid wearing contact lenses, and be cautious as vision may temporarily blur after instillation, so driving or operating machinery should be avoided. Using it with anticoagulants may increase the risk of bleeding, so blood coagulation status should be checked periodically, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should only use it after consulting a physician, and care should be taken as it may affect the baby while breastfeeding. It should not be injected directly into the eye and is to be used only as eye drops.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to avoid exposure to air and is safest when kept at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Therefore, it is important not to place it in excessively hot or excessively cold locations.
