This medication is used effectively in adults for the relief of pain due to peripheral neuropathy.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

This medication is administered once daily after the evening meal. It should be swallowed whole and not be split, crushed, or chewed. A starting dose of 150 mg may be administered daily. Based on individual response and tolerance, the dose may be gradually increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day at one-week intervals.

Children's dosage

The safety and efficacy have not been established in patients under the age of 19.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors. If there are any changes in mood or behavior while taking this medication, notify a healthcare professional immediately. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication should not take it. Patients with diabetes should be cautious as weight gain may affect blood sugar control. If symptoms of angioedema occur, discontinuation should happen immediately. The elderly should be careful during initial use due to risks of dizziness or drowsiness leading to falls.
