This medication is used for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in adult males, that is, male pattern hair loss. It helps improve symptoms of gradually thinning and falling hair and maintain a healthy scalp environment. If taken continuously, it can slow the progression of hair loss and promote hair growth. Thus, it is effectively used to manage the symptoms of individuals suffering from hair loss.

How to take

Adult dose

Generally, finasteride is administered orally at a dose of 1 mg once a day, regardless of meals. Typically, treatment effects can be observed after taking it for at least 3 months, and continued use is recommended to maintain treatment effects.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to children or women. In particular, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not touch broken pieces of the tablet, as this may pose a risk to the fetus. During treatment with this medication, depression or mood changes may occur; if such symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a healthcare professional is necessary. Pregnant women should absolutely not take this medication, as it may cause abnormalities in the development of the male fetus's reproductive organs. Patients allergic to this medication or its components, patients already taking other 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, and patients with lactose intolerance or allergies to soybean oil, beans, or peanuts should not use this medication. Patients with impaired liver function or with conditions such as hyperlipidemia and diabetic dyslipidemia should use this medication cautiously. This medication may cause side effects related to sexual function, such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, or ejaculation disorders. If such symptoms occur, the treatment should be stopped and consult a doctor. If there are lumps, pain, enlargement, or discharge in the breasts, it should be reported to healthcare personnel immediately. This medication may lower prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels in blood tests, requiring caution during interpretation of test results. There is no specific antidote for overdose; however, general symptom observation and supportive care are necessary. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is safer not to transfer it to other containers. Animal studies during pregnancy have reported genital abnormalities in male fetuses, so pregnant women must not take this medication. Since this medication is metabolized in the liver, patients with liver disease should consult a physician before taking it. No significant interactions with other medications have been reported, but it is advisable to inform a doctor if other medications are being taken.

Decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, ejaculation disorders, breast tenderness, breast enlargement, testicular pain, hematospermia, orgasm disorders, male infertility, decreased quality of semen, muscle pain, myasthenia, anxiety, dizziness, headache, palpitations, elevated liver enzyme levels, heartburn, rash, itching, depression, suicidal thoughts, persistent sexual dysfunction after discontinuation.
