Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension
Amlodipine and Olmesartan Medoxomil are medications used to treat essential hypertension. These drugs work by dilating blood vessels and lowering blood pressure, respectively. The combination of both medications allows for more effective blood pressure control compared to single-agent therapy. Essential hypertension is a chronic condition that occurs without a specific cause, and it's important to maintain appropriate blood pressure to prevent cardiovascular complications. This combination therapy can be applied to patients who struggle with blood pressure control and helps lower blood pressure stably to protect the heart and blood vessels. Therefore, this medication is effectively used in the treatment of essential hypertension.
This medication should be taken once daily, 1 tablet, with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time every day (e.g., in the morning). The starting dose may range from 5/20/12.5mg with gradual increases up to a maximum of 10/40/25mg based on blood pressure control. Each dose adjustment should be made at an interval of more than 2 weeks. Dose adjustment and monitoring for renal impairment, liver impairment, and older adults are required.
The safety and efficacy for pediatric patients under 18 years have not been established, and the use of this medication is not recommended.
This medication can cause serious damage to the fetus and newborn during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, if pregnancy is confirmed, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Patients who have allergies to this medication or its components, or have specific heart, kidney, or liver diseases, pregnant women, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Patients with reduced blood volume, decreased kidney function, weak liver function, or specific heart conditions should use this medication cautiously and should be closely monitored as hypotension or changes in kidney function may occur. As this medication has blood pressure-lowering effects, it may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, so caution is advised when driving or operating dangerous machinery. This medication may affect electrolyte balance in the blood, especially potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium levels; therefore, regular blood tests should be performed to monitor the condition. While taking this medication, the skin may become sensitive to sunlight; thus, it's recommended to avoid sun exposure or take appropriate protective measures. This medication can interact with various other drugs, so if you are taking other medications, you must inform your doctor or pharmacist, especially when used together with lithium, diuretics, antihypertensives, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). In case of overdose, symptoms including hypotension, palpitations, and in severe cases, cardiac function deterioration can occur, and immediate medical help should be sought. This medication's safety and effectiveness for children have not been established, and dosage adjustment may be necessary for the elderly considering decreased liver and kidney function. It is advisable for nursing women to avoid using this medication, and if necessary, consider stopping breastfeeding or alternative treatment options.
