This medication is used for myocardial ischemia such as hypertension and stable angina, as well as variant angina caused by vascular spasms. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients with coronary heart disease confirmed by recent angiography, particularly in those without heart failure or with an ejection fraction of 40% or more. This medication also reduces the risks associated with coronary vascular interventions. Therefore, it is effective for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and is used to improve patients' heart health.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, individuals with allergies to this medication or similar drugs, nursing women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, severe aortic stenosis patients, and those in shock should not use this medication. Additionally, it should be used with caution in cases of severe hypotension, patients requiring dialysis for renal failure, elderly individuals, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Common side effects include flushing, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, various side effects such as hypotension, vasculitis, neurological abnormalities, erectile dysfunction, gynecomastia, dyspepsia, weight changes, hair loss, skin rash, and liver function abnormalities have been reported. For patients with heart failure, caution is needed as this medication may increase the risk of pulmonary edema. In patients with liver impairment, the drug's half-life may be prolonged, necessitating dosage adjustments. This medication lowers blood pressure slowly and is not suitable for acute angina or emergency situations. It is known to have little impact on driving or operating machinery. This medication can interact with various other drugs, so caution is needed, especially when taken with certain antibiotics, antihypertensives, or grapefruit juice. It is advisable to avoid taking this medication with grapefruit juice as it may excessively enhance its effect. The safety of this medication during pregnancy is not certain, and it is recommended that women during pregnancy or who may become pregnant avoid its use unless under special circumstances. Additionally, nursing mothers should stop breastfeeding when taking this medication. In children, it can be used from age 6 and older, and its efficacy and safety have not been established in children under 6. In the elderly, it can be administered at normal doses, but careful monitoring of physical condition is required. In case of overdose, blood pressure may drop too low or heart rate may increase, potentially leading to shock. Immediate medical treatment is required in such cases, and gastric lavage or activated charcoal may be helpful. Vasopressors may be used to restore blood pressure, and intravenous administration of calcium gluconate may help reduce the medication's effects. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis, so extra caution is needed in case of overdose. Long-term use of this medication has not reported any potential for carcinogenicity or mutagenicity, and it is known not to affect fertility.
