This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in elderly people, adolescents, and adults with vitamin D deficiency.

How it is given

Adult administration

200,000 IU of cholecalciferol is administered via intramuscular injection. Annual dosing should not exceed 600,000 IU of cholecalciferol.

Child administration

200,000 IU of cholecalciferol is administered via intramuscular injection.

Precautions

This medicine contains vitamin D, so it is important to check the total vitamin D content when taking it with vitamin D fortified foods or other vitamin D preparations. Calcium levels in the blood should be regularly checked, and the medication should be discontinued if calcium levels become too high. If calcium intake is high, it is important to frequently monitor calcium levels in the blood and urine. This medication should not be used in patients with certain diseases, those with poor kidney function, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Various side effects such as headaches, muscle pain, gastrointestinal disturbances, dehydration, and hypertension may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms arise, consult a doctor immediately. When administering to patients with vitamin D deficiency, blood vitamin D levels should be periodically checked, and overdose should be avoided. Patients with impaired kidney function or the elderly should regularly undergo kidney function tests, and dosage adjustments should be made if necessary. As interactions with other drugs may occur, consult a doctor or pharmacist if taking anticonvulsants, diuretics, antacids, etc. together. During pregnancy, excessive intake of vitamin D can be harmful to the fetus, so it is safest not to use this medication. For children under 12 years of age, safety and efficacy have not been adequately confirmed, so it is recommended not to use this medication.
