Reduction of the risk of cardiovascular disease and improvement of dyslipidemia
This medication is particularly effective in adult patients with a history of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and stroke. It reduces the risk of fatal coronary heart disease and lowers the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction and stroke. It also helps reduce the risk of coronary and non-coronary vascular interventions. For patients with dyslipidemia, it is used as an adjunct to diet to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels while increasing HDL cholesterol. Therefore, this medication is effectively used for the reduction of cardiovascular disease risk and improvement of dyslipidemia.
The recommended initial dose for reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease is 40 mg once daily. For the treatment of dyslipidemia, the typical initial dose is 20 mg once in the evening, and patients with mild to moderate hypercholesterolemia may start with 10 mg. Administer a dose of 5 to 40 mg once daily in the evening; the dosage should be adjusted based on the initial LDL cholesterol levels and therapeutic goals before starting treatment.
For pediatric patients (ages 10 to 17) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once in the evening, with a recommended dosage range of 10 to 40 mg per day. The recommended maximum dose
