Treatment for essential hypertension and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication effectively lowers blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension, reducing the burden on blood vessels and the heart. It is also used to decrease the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and mortality due to cardiovascular diseases in patients aged 55 or older who are at high risk for cardiovascular conditions. It can be used as an alternative when ACE inhibitors are not suitable. This medication helps maintain cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of complications.
For essential hypertension, 40 mg of Telmisartan is administered orally once daily with water, and it can be taken regardless of meals. Depending on the patient, 20 mg once daily may also be effective, and if necessary, can be increased up to 80 mg once daily. Maximum blood pressure-lowering effect is typically observed 4 to 8 weeks after treatment initiation. For the reduction of cardiovascular disease risk, it is recommended to take 80 mg orally once daily with water.
