This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia, thus caution is required, especially in patients with impaired renal function or those with heart or lung conditions or sepsis. Patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer should carefully consider the risks and benefits before using this medication. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and safety in pediatric patients has not been established. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function, so it is important to adjust the dosage and regularly monitor kidney function.
