Prevention of osteoporosis and spinal fractures in postmenopausal women
This medication is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is particularly effective in reducing the incidence of spinal fractures. However, it is worth noting that its effectiveness in non-spinal fractures has not yet been clearly established. Overall, it helps maintain bone health and reduce the risk of spinal fractures.
Take one tablet once daily, regardless of meals.
This medication may increase the risk of thrombosis in the blood. Specifically, the risk of venous thromboembolism such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and retinal vein thrombosis may increase. This risk is highest during the first year of treatment, and it is not recommended for women with a high risk of thrombosis. Extra caution is needed in case of risk factors such as elderly age, obesity, limited mobility, surgery, major trauma, and cancer. In situations of limited mobility, the use of this medication should be discontinued and restarted only when full mobility is restored. During long-distance travel, it is important to move regularly to prevent the occurrence of thrombi. This medication is intended for use in postmenopausal women only, and its safety has not been established in premenopausal women, so it is not recommended. Although it does not induce endometrial proliferation, if uterine bleeding occurs during use, medical attention should be sought immediately. The safety of this medication has not been confirmed in breast cancer patients, and it is advisable not to use it for the prevention or treatment of breast cancer. It should not be used if there is an allergy to this medication or its components, or if there is a history of thromboembolism. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as those who are breastfeeding, should also not use this medication. Patients with unexplained uterine bleeding, symptoms of endometrial cancer, hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, or kidney stones should not use this medication. Additionally, those with rare genetic disorders such as lactose intolerance should avoid it. Patients with hypertriglyceridemia, and those with renal and liver dysfunction or taking specific medications should use it cautiously and follow a doctor’s instructions. Drowsiness or vision disorders may occur during use of this medication, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Patients at high risk of vitamin D deficiency may require additional supplementation, and if calcium intake is insufficient, supplementary calcium should also be taken. In cases of overdose, symptoms of hypercalcemia may occur, so blood calcium levels and symptoms should be monitored carefully. Store out of the reach of children, and it is safest to keep it in its original container.
