This medication is effective against various bacteria such as staphylococci, streptococci, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is used to treat infections around the eyes, including blepharitis, nasolacrimal duct infection, styes, conjunctivitis, keratitis, and corneal ulcers. This medication helps improve the symptoms of these infections.

How to apply drops

Adult eye dose

In cases of mild to moderate infection, instill 1-2 drops into the affected area every 4 hours. In cases of severe infection, instill 2 drops every hour until symptoms improve, and then gradually taper off. Adjust as appropriate according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have had an allergic reaction to aminoglycoside antibiotics or bacitracin. When using this medication, symptoms such as itching or swelling of the eyelids, redness of the eyes, conjunctivitis, and temporary stinging of the eyes may occur; if such symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately. Additionally, irritation or pain may occasionally occur, so caution is necessary if such discomfort arises. To prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, this medication should only be used for the minimum duration after confirming the sensitivity of the infecting bacteria. To prevent allergic reactions or severe side effects, it is advisable to conduct a thorough medical history and skin reaction tests prior to use. Prolonged or repeated use may lead to an excessive proliferation of other bacteria; in such cases, the use of the medication should be stopped and appropriate treatment should be administered. It is safe not to use this medication in conjunction with certain classes of antibiotics. When using aminoglycoside systemically alongside this medication, blood levels should be monitored periodically. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid wearing contact lenses to prevent the spread of infection. There may be temporary blurring of vision after instillation, so driving or operating machinery should be avoided until vision is fully restored. Patients taking anticoagulants may have an increased risk of bleeding when using this medication, so blood coagulation status should be frequently monitored and anticoagulant doses adjusted if necessary. Use during pregnancy should only occur in special cases, and use during breastfeeding should be carefully considered to avoid harm to the baby; breastfeeding should be discontinued or the use carefully judged. In case of overdose, symptoms such as inflammation or congestion of the eyes, increased tearing, swelling, and itching may occur; therefore, the blood concentration of the drug should be carefully managed, and if necessary, treatments like dialysis may be helpful. This medication should not be injected directly into the eyes. Some bacteria have shown resistance to this medication in the country, so it should be appropriately used considering this point during treatment.
