Precautions

This medication may rarely cause a severe metabolic disorder called lactic acidosis, so caution is necessary, especially in patients with reduced kidney function or acute illnesses. Additionally, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taken in combination with insulin or sulfonylurea drugs, so blood glucose levels should be closely monitored. Patients allergic to any component of this medication or with severely impaired liver function should not take it. There is also a risk of muscle injury when combined with certain medications or in patients with muscle diseases; therefore, physician's guidance should be followed. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and women who may become pregnant should use appropriate contraception. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, acute heart failure, or serious infections should avoid or take with special caution. This medication may cause side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, muscle pain, and liver function abnormalities, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. Regular tests to monitor kidney and liver function, as well as consistent checks on blood glucose control, are necessary. Excessive alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects, so alcohol should be avoided. Since there may be potential interactions with other medications, any current medications must be disclosed to a physician or pharmacist. Elderly patients are more prone to decreased kidney function, so dose adjustments and periodic testing are necessary. There are no specific antidotes for overdose, so one should seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment, and blood dialysis may be helpful. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container for safety.
