This medication is used to effectively control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. Additionally, it reduces the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death from cardiovascular diseases in patients aged 55 years and older with high-risk cardiovascular disease, especially those with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, or transient ischemic attack, or those with evidence of end-organ damage due to high-risk diabetes. It helps in protecting cardiovascular health and reducing risk factors.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Essential Hypertension Telmisartan should be taken orally as a 40 mg dose once daily with water, irrespective of meals. Depending on patient response, a dose of 20 mg once daily may be effective, and if necessary, the dose can be increased up to 80 mg once daily. Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, so it must be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. It should not be used by individuals who have an allergy to this drug or its components, pregnant or nursing women, patients with severe liver impairment or biliary obstruction, patients with hereditary angioedema, and those with certain kidney diseases. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia, mild to moderate liver impairment, heart valve disease, gastrointestinal disease, and severe kidney impairment should use this medication with caution. This medication lowers blood pressure, but can sometimes cause side effects such as hypotension, dizziness, worsening of kidney function, and hyperkalemia, requiring vigilance. It is important to regularly check kidney function and electrolyte status through blood tests while taking this medication. If symptoms of angioedema such as swelling of the face, lips, or tongue occur during treatment, use of this medication should be stopped immediately, and medical attention should be sought. Interactions may occur if taken with other antihypertensives, certain diuretics, lithium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), so patients must inform healthcare providers about all medications being taken. If surgery is planned, it is advisable to refrain from taking this medication 24 hours prior to the procedure. This medication is not recommended for use in children and adolescents as safety and efficacy have not been established. Caution should be taken due to the risk of dizziness or fainting when driving or operating machinery. In case of overdose, symptoms may include hypotension, dizziness, and acute renal failure; immediate medical attention should be sought.
