This medication helps to lower total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, and triglycerides in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia, as well as mixed hyperlipidemia, while increasing HDL-cholesterol. It may be used in conjunction with or as an alternative treatment to other therapies for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia to reduce LDL-cholesterol levels. This medication should be taken alongside an appropriate diet, and it is important to administer it when diet or non-pharmacological treatment is insufficient. Before starting treatment, secondary causes such as diabetes and hypothyroidism should be assessed and treated if necessary. Additionally, when acute coronary events occur, blood lipid levels should be checked at the time of admission or within 24 hours to inform the treatment plan, and this medication is used to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease related to hypercholesterolemia.
