This medication is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is particularly effective in reducing the occurrence of spinal fractures. However, its definitive effect on non-spinal fractures has not yet been proven. Therefore, it is primarily recommended as a treatment that can help in the prevention of spinal fractures.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet (20 mg of Bazedoxifene) once daily, regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of blood clots in the bloodstream. Especially, there is a risk of thrombosis occurring in deep veins of the legs or in the blood vessels of the lungs and eyes, so caution is needed. This medication should only be used in postmenopausal women and should not be used in premenopausal women, pregnant women, or nursing mothers. If uterine bleeding occurs while taking this medication, a doctor's evaluation is necessary, and it should be avoided in cases of symptoms of endometrial cancer. Those with a history of thrombosis, known allergies to this medication, or specific genetic diseases should not take it. Patients with high triglycerides or severe renal or liver dysfunction should use this medication cautiously, and it is particularly not recommended for patients with liver dysfunction. During the course of treatment, side effects such as flushing of the face or leg muscle cramps may occur, and drowsiness or visual disturbances can arise, necessitating caution while driving or operating machinery. Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mouth/eye mucous membranes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, abnormal breathing with cough and fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), profound lethargy, sudden and severe headache, lightning headache, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, significantly reduced urination.

Mild side effects

Drowsiness, flushing, leg cramps, dry mouth, rash, itching, muscle cramps, peripheral edema, increased triglycerides, elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT), increased aspartate aminotransferase (AST), decreased vision, blurred vision, photophobia, visual field defects, dry eyes, eyelid swelling, eyelid twitching, eye pain, eye swelling, vomiting, gastritis, belching, allergic reactions, chest discomfort, leg pain, fever, etc.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent air or moisture from entering. It is also advisable to keep it in a cool place below 25 degrees.
