This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is particularly effective in reducing the occurrence of spinal fractures, but its effects on non-spinal fractures have not yet been clearly established. Therefore, this medication is beneficial for postmenopausal women at risk for spinal fractures and plays an important role in the management of osteoporosis.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet once daily, regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of venous thromboembolism, so women at high risk for thrombosis should avoid using it. Special caution is advised in cases of risk factors such as advanced age, obesity, prolonged immobility, recovery after surgery, and malignant tumors. This medication is intended for use only in postmenopausal women and is not recommended for premenopausal women. If uterine bleeding occurs during use, a healthcare professional should be consulted. Its safety has not been established in breast cancer patients, so its use for prevention or treatment is not recommended. It should not be used by individuals with hypersensitivity to this medication, a history of thromboembolism, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, or nursing mothers. Patients with unexplained uterine bleeding or symptoms of endometrial cancer should also refrain from taking this medication. Patients with certain genetic disorders, such as lactose intolerance, should avoid it. Those with hypertriglyceridemia or renal or liver impairment should use this medication with caution, and possible interactions with other medications should also be considered. Caution is necessary as drowsiness or visual impairment may occur when driving or operating machinery. In cases of insufficient calcium intake, supplements may be taken together, and additional supplementation may be necessary for patients at high risk of vitamin D deficiency. Overdose may lead to symptoms such as hypercalcemia, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, and requires immediate medical attention. This medication is not to be used in children, and no special dosage adjustment is needed for the elderly. It should be stored in its original container and kept out of the reach of children. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication, and if pregnancy is confirmed, use should be stopped immediately.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/eye mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), systemic extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, lightning headache, seizures, confusion of consciousness, visual abnormalities, paralysis, urination

Mild side effects

Facial flushing, leg cramps, drowsiness, dry mouth, rash, itching, muscle cramps, peripheral edema, increased triglycerides in the blood, increased alanine aminotransferase (ALT), increased aspartate aminotransferase (AST), visual impairment, blurred vision, photophobia, visual field defects, visual disturbances, dry eyes, eyelid edema, eyelid twitching, eye pain, eye swelling, vomiting, gastritis, colon polyps, belching, allergic reactions, chest discomfort

Storage

This medication may be sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a sealed container. The storage temperature should be maintained between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius to ensure the medication retains its effectiveness.
