  • androgenetic alopecia
View approved original text

This medication is used for the treatment of male pattern baldness, specifically androgenetic alopecia in adult males. Male pattern baldness occurs due to genetic factors and hormonal changes, and this medication helps to inhibit hair loss progression and promote hair regrowth, thereby improving symptoms. With consistent use, it can provide relief from hair loss and increase hair thickness. This treatment is particularly suitable for adult males aged 18 to 41 years. It is important for patients to adhere to the prescribed dosage, and consistent treatment can yield good results.

Adult dose

Typically, finasteride is taken orally at a dose of 1 mg once daily, with or without food. There is no evidence that increasing the dose enhances efficacy. Precautions

This medication should not be given to children or women. In particular, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not handle broken pieces of this medication. This medication prevents the conversion of testosterone, a male hormone, into its more active form, dihydrotestosterone, and is used in the treatment of male pattern baldness or benign prostatic hyperplasia. When used normally, the tablets are not broken, and there is no direct contact with the active ingredient, making it safe. However, if broken pieces come into contact with the skin, they can pose risks to the fetus, particularly for pregnant women. During the use of this medication, depression or mood changes may occur; if such symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not take or touch this medication, as it can particularly affect the development of male fetal genitalia. Individuals allergic to this medication, currently taking similar medications, or with genetic conditions such as lactose intolerance should not use this medication. Patients with liver function problems need to be especially cautious when using this medication. While using this medication, side effects related to sexual function, such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders, may occur; however, in most cases, these symptoms recover upon discontinuation of the medication. Long-term use may result in breast tenderness, breast enlargement, and rarely, reports of breast cancer in some patients, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to a physician immediately. This medication may affect prostate cancer risk, so regular check-ups and PSA level measurements are necessary. This medication has relatively few interactions with other medications, but if you are taking any other medications, you must inform your healthcare provider. Pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children should not use this medication, and while elderly patients do not require dosage adjustments, its efficacy is not confirmed. During the use of this medication, care must be taken in interpreting blood test results, particularly PSA levels. There is no specific treatment for overdose, but consultation with a healthcare provider is advisable due to the potential for serious side effects. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers. While no specific risks have been found in carcinogenic studies, its safety should continually be monitored even with long-term use.
