Effect on blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes and prevention of cardiovascular events
This medication is used alongside dietary and exercise regimens to improve blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is particularly suitable for patients whose blood glucose is not adequately controlled and should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular diseases. This medication enhances blood glucose control and aids in diabetes management.
The recommended starting dose of this medication is ertugliflozin 5 mg/citagliptin 100 mg, once daily. This medication should be taken orally once daily in the morning, regardless of meals. If the patient has good tolerance and requires additional blood glucose control, the dose may be increased to ertugliflozin 15 mg/citagliptin 100 mg once daily.
This medication contains two active ingredients: citagliptin and ertugliflozin. First, this medication may cause allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as hives, skin rash, or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Second, there is a risk of acute pancreatitis, a serious inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite arise, seek medical attention immediately. Third, this medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or those with severely impaired renal function. Patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication’s ingredients should also not take it. Fourth, patients with low blood pressure, reduced renal function, the elderly, or those taking diuretics should be monitored carefully as there is a risk of decreased blood volume and hypotension when using this medication. Fifth, patients with heart failure or at high risk of heart failure should consult a physician before taking this medication and should be monitored closely for heart failure symptoms during treatment. Sixth, this medication can cause ketoacidosis, a serious metabolic disturbance, so if symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, or generalized fatigue appear, immediate medical attention is required. Seventh, this medication may cause fungal infections in the genital area, so appropriate treatment should be sought if there is genital itching or discomfort. Eighth, there is a possibility of hypoglycemia, especially if used together with other blood glucose-lowering agents like insulin or sulfonylureas, so patients should be alert for symptoms of low blood sugar. Ninth, renal function should be regularly monitored, as decreased renal function may reduce the effectiveness of this medication. Tenth, it is recommended that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding do not use this medication, and if pregnancy is confirmed, it should be discontinued immediately. Finally, this medication has not been established as safe and effective for use in children or adolescents under the age of 18, so it should not be administered to them. When taking this medication, it is essential to be aware of the above considerations and to consult medical personnel immediately if any abnormal symptoms occur.
Hives, severe swelling (angioedema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness (severe allergic reaction), high fever accompanied by severe rash, blisters, skin shedding, oral/ocular mucosal pain (severe skin reactions), shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities with cough and fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy (liver abnormalities), sudden and severe reactions.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent air or moisture from entering and kept at a temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage ensures the drug's effectiveness is maintained and prevents degradation.
