This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is particularly effective in reducing the risk of spinal fractures. However, please note that the clear effects on non-spinal fractures have not yet been confirmed. Overall, it can help improve bone density and reduce the risk of fractures.

How to take

Adult dose

1 tablet once daily, taken irrespective of meals.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of venous thromboembolism, such as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Caution is especially required during the first year of treatment when this risk is highest. Additionally, this medication should only be used in postmenopausal women and is not recommended for premenopausal women. It should not be administered to pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, or breastfeeding women. If unexpected uterine bleeding occurs while taking this medication, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Patients with a history of thrombosis or those with kidney stones, hypercalcemia, or hypercalciuria should not take this medication. Patients with certain conditions such as hypertriglyceridemia, liver impairment, or kidney impairment should take this medication under careful medical supervision. This medication may cause side effects such as drowsiness, flushing, or leg cramps, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Additionally, if vision disturbances or other ocular symptoms occur, consult a doctor immediately. If calcium intake is insufficient, it is advisable to take supplements, and patients at high risk for vitamin D deficiency may need additional supplementation. This medication may interact with other drugs, so you must inform your healthcare provider of any medications you are taking. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so treatment should be symptomatic, and care should be taken as hypercalcemia symptoms may occur. Finally, keep this medication out of the reach of children and store it in its original container for safety.
