Efficacy & effects

Improvement of hypoalbuminemia

  • Hypoalbuminemia
View approved original text

This medication is intended for patients with hypoalbuminemia due to non-cirrhotic liver disease. Despite adequate nutrition, liver function decline can lead to reduced albumin production, resulting in low serum albumin levels. This medication helps to improve hypoalbuminemia, restore protein balance in the body, and enhance overall nutritional status. Improvement in hypoalbuminemia can also positively impact the alleviation of symptoms such as edema. Therefore, this medication effectively improves hypoalbuminemia in patients with non-cirrhotic liver disease.

How to take

Adult dose

Typically, 1 packet is administered three times a day after meals for adults.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with congenital branched-chain amino acid metabolic disorders. Symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, abdominal bloating, abdominal discomfort, and vomiting may occur when taking this medication; if such symptoms arise, the dosage should be reduced or temporarily discontinued. If blood tests show an increase in BUN levels, dosage adjustments may be necessary due to potential renal function issues. Caution is required as metabolic disorders may lead to increased blood ammonia levels. Symptoms such as liver dysfunction, skin rash, itching, or edema of the face or legs may occur; consult a physician if any unusual symptoms arise. This medication is used in patients with hypoalbuminemia who have ascites, edema, or hepatic encephalopathy and have adequate food intake. It should not be administered to patients with severe liver cirrhosis or severe hepatic encephalopathy, or to those with high total bilirubin levels or significantly reduced protein synthesis in the liver. This medication contains only branched-chain amino acids, and patients must ensure adequate intake of other necessary amino acids and calories from food; particular caution is needed for patients requiring protein restriction. If BUN or ammonia levels rise in blood tests, dosage adjustments may be required to avoid overdose. If hypoalbuminemia does not improve after 2 months of use, alternative treatment methods should be considered. Elderly patients should use this medication with caution due to potential metabolic disorders. The safety of this medication in pregnant or nursing women has not been established and should only be administered when the benefits outweigh the risks. The safety in pediatric patients has not been confirmed, and there is no experience in use.
