This medication is used to assist patients with type 2 diabetes in controlling their blood glucose levels. It can be administered alone or in combination with other medications along with dietary adjustments and exercise therapy. Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

This medication is taken orally once a day, regardless of meals. As a monotherapy, it can be started at a dose of 15 mg once daily, and if the effect is insufficient, the dose may be increased to 30 mg once daily. In combination therapy, the initial dose is 15 mg once daily, and the maximum recommended dose does not exceed 30 mg once daily.

Children's dosage

There is no experience in using it in children under 18 years, so administration is not recommended.

Precautions

This medication is used to help patients with type 2 diabetes control their blood glucose levels. While taking this medication, heart disease known as congestive heart failure may develop or worsen, so if symptoms of heart failure occur, immediate medical attention should be sought. Patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not use this medication. This medication may cause fluid retention, worsening edema or heart failure, so if symptoms of edema occur, a consultation with a doctor is necessary. This medication should not be administered to patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function should not use this medication, and those with liver dysfunction should undergo regular liver function tests. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and premenopausal women should use appropriate contraception as ovulation may be stimulated, increasing the risk of pregnancy. When used in combination with other hypoglycemic agents or insulin, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so when concomitant administration is performed, pay attention to hypoglycemic symptoms and adjust the dosage of other medications as necessary. Elderly patients or those with cardiovascular diseases should use this medication with caution; especially patients over 75 years old should take it cautiously. If any symptoms such as weight gain, edema, difficulty breathing, or sudden weight changes occur while taking this medication, patients should inform their healthcare provider immediately. Additionally, this medication may cause side effects such as liver dysfunction, hypoglycemia, edema, headache, upper respiratory infections, so if abnormal symptoms occur, a prompt consultation with a doctor is advised. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of bone fractures, making it important to regularly check bone health status. Finally, this medication has not been confirmed for safety and efficacy in children, so it is not used.
