Improvement of essential hypertension
Essential hypertension is used to control blood pressure within the normal range to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
For adults, the recommended initial dose is 10mg once daily, with or without food. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose may be increased to 20mg once daily, and if additional blood pressure reduction is needed, the maximum dose can be raised to 40mg once daily. The antihypertensive effect appears within 2 weeks after starting treatment, with maximum effect occurring around 8 weeks. If blood pressure is not controlled with this medication alone, it may be combined with thiazide diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide.
Safety and efficacy in children have not yet been established, so no dosage has been determined.
