How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken orally once daily, regardless of meals. For monotherapy, therapy should be initiated at 15 mg once daily, and if the effect is insufficient, the dose can be increased to 30 mg once daily. For combination therapy, the initial dose is also 15 mg once daily, and the maximum recommended dose does not exceed 30 mg once daily.

Precautions

This drug is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and helps improve insulin resistance to assist in blood sugar control. Care should be taken regarding cardiac function when taking this medication. Some patients may experience heart failure or worsening of symptoms, so careful observation of weight changes, breathlessness, and edema is required after initiating treatment. Patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not take this medication, and if symptoms of heart failure appear, they should consult a physician to consider dosage adjustments or discontinuation. This medication can cause fluid retention, which could lead to edema or heart failure, especially in patients with pre-existing edema. It is not to be administered to certain patient groups, including those with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer, severe liver dysfunction or kidney dysfunction, those with type 1 diabetes, and patients with diabetic ketoacidosis. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should consult a doctor before taking this medication, as it may stimulate ovulation in premenopausal women; therefore, appropriate contraception is needed. During treatment, patients should be vigilant about hypoglycemic symptoms, particularly when used in combination with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase and dosage adjustments may be necessary. If symptoms of liver dysfunction (fatigue, loss of appetite, jaundice, etc.) occur, immediate medical attention is required, and regular monitoring of liver function tests is important. This medication may cause weight gain and edema, so patients should periodically check their weight and report any unusual symptoms to their doctor. Increased risk of fractures may occur, so special care regarding bone health is recommended for women, with regular check-ups and management needed. This drug may interact with other medications, so if other medicines are being taken, patients must inform their healthcare provider, especially if co-administered with drugs that inhibit or induce certain liver enzymes, as dosage adjustments may be necessary. The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years old have not been established, so it is not recommended for this age group. Elderly patients also require special attention, and those aged 75 and older should use it with greater caution. Store this medication out of reach of children, in its original container, protected from direct sunlight. If a dose is missed, do not double the next dose; follow the prescribed dosage.
