Treatment of male pattern hair loss
This medication is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss in adult men, particularly those aged 18 to 41 years, which is also known as androgenetic alopecia. Male pattern hair loss occurs due to genetic factors and the influence of male hormones, and this drug helps slow the progression of hair loss and promotes hair growth. With consistent use, it helps improve hair loss and maintain hair health. Therefore, it is effective in treating male pattern hair loss.
Typically, finasteride is orally administered once daily at a dose of 1 mg, with or without food. Generally, treatment effects can be observed after taking the medication for more than 3 months, and it is recommended to continue taking it to maintain its efficacy.
This drug should not be administered to children or women. In particular, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should be cautious not to touch broken pieces of this drug. This medication is metabolized in the liver, so patients with liver dysfunction should use it with caution. Depression or mood changes may occur during treatment, so mental status should be closely monitored, and if abnormal symptoms arise, medical consultation should be sought immediately. This medication may cause side effects related to sexual function, such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders, and treatment may be discontinued if such symptoms occur. Additionally, abnormal reactions such as breast pain or enlargement, skin rash, muscle pain, dizziness, and headache have been reported, so these symptoms should be reported to a healthcare professional. While taking this drug, levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) may change, so care should be taken when interpreting test results. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so it is important to contact a medical institution immediately. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers. Finally, although this drug has a low risk of drug interactions, it is advisable to inform healthcare providers if other medications are being taken.
Decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, ejaculation disorder (decreased ejaculate), breast tenderness and enlargement, testicular pain, hematospermia, orgasm disorders, muscle pain, myasthenia, anxiety, dizziness, headache, palpitations, elevated liver enzyme levels, rash, itching, urticaria, angioedema (including swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, and face), depression, suicidal thoughts, persistent decreased libido after discontinuation, persistent sexual dysfunction after discontinuation (erectile dysfunction, ejaculation disorder)
