Precautions

This medication can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, which can be life-threatening, thus caution is needed. When used with other diabetes medications, there can be a risk of severe hypoglycemia, so caution is advised. Patients with allergies to the components in this medication, those with severe liver impairment, muscle diseases, or those taking certain immunosuppressants should not take this medication. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication, and women of childbearing potential should take appropriate contraceptive measures. Patients with severe kidney impairment, acute cardiac issues, severe infections, or dehydration should also avoid this medication. Patients scheduled for surgery should stop taking this medication 48 hours prior to the procedure, and should only resume once normal kidney function is confirmed post-surgery. While using this medication, irregular meals, excessive exercise, and interactions with other medications can increase the risk of lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so attention is needed. If symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle weakness, or muscle cramps occur, notify the healthcare provider immediately, and medication may be discontinued after examinations if necessary. If symptoms of liver dysfunction, severe skin reactions, or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical attention. This medication can affect kidney function, so regular kidney function tests are necessary, particularly for the elderly or those with reduced kidney function. Taking this medication with alcohol may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so alcohol intake should be avoided. During treatment, regular monitoring of blood glucose, liver function, and muscle-related tests should be conducted to check for any abnormalities. Caution is necessary as dizziness may occur while driving or operating machinery. This medication has not been confirmed safe and effective for children and adolescents, so it should not be used in individuals under 19 years of age. In case of overdose, notify healthcare professionals immediately and seek appropriate treatment; this medication can be removed by dialysis.
