This medicine is used to treat hypertension and stable angina, as well as myocardial ischemia due to variant angina or vasospasm-induced vasoconstriction. Additionally, it reduces the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients with confirmed coronary artery disease from recent angiography, provided there is no heart failure, and the cardiac output is above 40%. It also actively improves the patient's heart health by reducing risks associated with coronary artery reconstructive procedures.

Adult dose

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients for safety reasons. For example, it should not be administered to individuals allergic to this drug or similar classes of medications, nursing women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, severe aortic stenosis patients, and those in shock states. Particular caution is required for patients with severe hypotension, those requiring dialysis for renal failure, the elderly, and pregnant women or women who may become pregnant when using this medication. Side effects can include facial flushing, fatigue, edema, a feeling of rapid heart rate, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, various abnormal reactions such as hypotension, vasculitis, neurological abnormalities, digestive disturbances, skin rashes, and liver dysfunction have been reported. Patients with heart failure or reduced liver function should be particularly cautious when using this medication. Blood pressure may slowly decrease even after discontinuing treatment, so it is essential to carefully adjust dosages and intervals when used in combination with other antihypertensive medications. This medication may not be effective in emergency situations such as unstable angina, and it is known not to significantly affect driving or machine operation ability. This medicine may interact with several other medications, so if there are other medications being taken, it is crucial to consult healthcare professionals. In particular, when combined with grapefruit juice, the hypotensive effect may become excessive, so it is advisable to avoid this combination. The safety of this medication has not been established in pregnant and nursing women; therefore, it is preferable not to use it unless absolutely necessary. In children, some dosages may be used for those over 6 years old; however, the efficacy and safety in children under 6 have not been established. In the case of overdose, severe blood pressure drop and cardiac issues may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis; therefore, specialized treatment is necessary. It is known to have a low risk of carcinogenicity or mutagenesis even with long-term use, but it is crucial to take this medication only as directed by healthcare providers.
