Improvement of Alzheimer's type dementia symptoms
This medication is used to alleviate the symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia. It helps improve memory decline, cognitive function deterioration, and difficulties in daily life caused by dementia, thus enhancing the patient's quality of life.
For donepezil hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. Administer 5 mg for 4-6 weeks. After evaluating the clinical response during this period, it can be escalated up to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg once daily, administer with caution regarding gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Underweight elderly women should not exceed 5 mg per day.
There is no experience in children.
This drug is primarily made of donepezil hydrochloride to alleviate the symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia. There are certain cases where this drug should not be used. Individuals who are allergic to donepezil hydrochloride or any ingredients of this drug, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and nursing women should not take this medication. Patients with heart-related diseases, such as bradycardia or heart conduction disorders, should use this drug with caution, as it can slow heart rate or cause arrhythmias. Patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or with a history of peptic ulcer should be cautious, as this medication may increase gastric acid secretion and enhance gastrointestinal motility, exacerbating ulcers. Patients with a history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease should also be cautious as this drug may cause bronchoconstriction or increase mucus secretion, worsening symptoms. Those with extrapyramidal disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, may experience worsening of symptoms when taking this medication, hence caution is advised. While taking this drug, various adverse reactions may occur. Heart-related issues such as syncope, bradycardia, heart block, and myocardial infarction have been reported, while gastrointestinal problems may include peptic ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding. Serious side effects such as liver dysfunction, seizures, extrapyramidal symptoms, and malignant neuroleptic syndrome may occur, so if you experience these symptoms, consult your medical professional immediately. Moreover, symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia, headache, fatigue, etc. are relatively commonly reported. This drug may affect the cardiovascular system, so patients with a history of heart disease may require regular ECG tests. Care should be taken when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or fatigue may occur. Pregnant or nursing women should refrain from taking this medication, and if absolutely necessary, consult a specialist to take measures such as stopping breastfeeding. This drug may interact with other medications, so especially inform your healthcare provider if you are taking drugs that affect the CYP3A4 or CYP2D6 enzymes. Overdose can lead to serious symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, respiratory depression, and requires immediate emergency treatment. When storing, keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to another container.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in the mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by coughing and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headaches, thunderclap headaches, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, etc.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
Store the drug in a sealed container to prevent air from entering, at room temperature between 1°C and 30°C. Doing so helps maintain the efficacy of the medication and prevents deterioration.
