Summary

Main use
Auxiliary effect in ophthalmic surgery (cataract, corneal transplantation, glaucoma)
Who receives it
Adults
Adult administration
1. During cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation, slowly inject the required amount into the anterior chamber before or after lens removal using a needle or cannula. It should be injected before capsular and capsular cataract surgeries to optimize the protective effect on the corneal endothelium as an auxiliary agent. 2. In corneal transplantation surgery, fill the anterior chamber with this drug until it matches the corneal surface and the water level, place the donor graft on top and suture it. 3. During glaucoma filtration surgery, inject this drug through a corneal puncture to supplement and maintain the anterior chamber volume.

View approved original text

This medicine is used as an aid for lens implantation during cataract surgery and assists in various ophthalmic surgeries, including corneal transplantation and glaucoma surgery. In other words, this drug is effectively utilized in various ophthalmic surgical processes.

How it is given

Precautions

This drug is composed of sodium hyaluronate and is mainly used during ophthalmic surgery. Patients who have experienced allergic reactions to the ingredients in this drug or protein-based medications should not use it. Caution is needed as various side effects such as increased intraocular pressure, inflammation, corneal edema, and opacification may occur during use. There is also a possibility of opacification occurring on the surface of the intraocular lens, and in very rare cases, corneal calcification may occur, so care should be taken. It is especially important to frequently check the intraocular pressure immediately after surgery, and if there is an increase in intraocular pressure, appropriate treatment should be received. After surgery, it is preferable to remove this drug by washing or suctioning as much as possible. Before ultrasonic emulsification and suction, a flush is to be performed to create a space filled with perfusion fluid between the lens and this drug. Surgical instruments should not be cleaned with solutions containing quaternary ammonium compounds such as benzalkonium chloride. This drug is derived from avian cells, so it should be recognized that there may be immunological risks. Do not use in conjunction with hyaluronidase and it should only be used ophthalmically; intravenous injection is strictly prohibited. Before use, allow the refrigerated drug to stand at room temperature for about 30 minutes to equilibrate, and after opening, it should be used only once, and any remaining drug should be discarded. When mixing this drug with air, care must be taken to prevent air from entering under the iris, and injection should be performed slowly and carefully. When injecting into the anterior chamber, avoid overdose, as this can be a cause of increased intraocular pressure after surgery. When storing, keep it out of reach of children, avoid direct sunlight, and store in a cool, dry place. To maintain quality, it is advisable not to transfer to another container.

Mild side effects

Increased intraocular pressure, inflammatory reactions, corneal edema, corneal opacification, anterior hemorrhage, iris neovascularization, posterior iris ulcer, conjunctival adhesion failure, mydriasis, lens opacification, pain, itching, blurry vision, corneal dysfunction, opacification of the intraocular lens surface, corneal calcification

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This drug should be stored in a sealed container to avoid contact with air, in a cool place between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius. Additionally, care should be taken to prevent the drug from freezing, and it is important to store it away from direct light.
