This medication is used to improve symptoms caused by atherosclerosis in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral artery disease. It is also effective in reducing the risk of cardiovascular events (such as myocardial infarction and stroke) in patients with acute coronary syndrome who receive drug therapy, coronary intervention, or coronary artery bypass grafting. Additionally, it is used to lower the risk of stroke and thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation who have vascular risk factors, where vitamin K antagonist therapy is not suitable, and where there is a low risk of bleeding. In summary, this medication is used to prevent and improve symptoms related to various cardiovascular diseases and complications associated with the formation of intravascular blood clots.

Precautions

This medication prevents platelet aggregation and inhibits blood clotting. Before taking this medication, consult your doctor if you have a genetic deficiency in certain enzymes, as this may reduce the drug's effectiveness. Additionally, it is advisable not to take it with medications that activate certain enzymes, as this may increase drug concentration and the risk of bleeding. This medication should not be taken by those with certain diseases or drug hypersensitivity, those with bleeding, severe liver impairment, those who are breastfeeding, and those with lactose intolerance. Patients at risk of bleeding should use this medication cautiously, and if signs of bleeding appear, they should consult a doctor immediately. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue this medication 5-7 days prior to the procedure and also exercise caution when taking it with other medications that carry a bleeding risk. Long-term use may result in side effects such as bleeding, reduction in blood cell counts, gastrointestinal symptoms, and skin rashes, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to healthcare personnel. Pregnant women should only use it when necessary, considering the potential impact on the fetus, and should be cautious due to increased bleeding risk during delivery. If breastfeeding, it is important to consult a doctor regarding whether to continue use, as the drug may be transmitted in breast milk. The safety and efficacy in children have not been established, and elderly patients may require dose adjustments and careful monitoring due to increased bleeding risk associated with diminished bodily functions. In case of overdose, prolonged bleeding time and bleeding complications may occur, and since there are currently no antidotes for this medication, treatment such as platelet transfusion may be necessary in case of bleeding. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided as it may pose a risk of accidents and decrease in quality.
