Precautions

This medication can rarely cause a condition called lactic acidosis, which can be life-threatening, so caution is needed. Additionally, when taken with other diabetes treatments such as insulin or sulfonylureas, severe hypoglycemia can occur, thus caution is advised. If muscle-related issues are suspected or if muscle enzyme levels rise significantly, the use of this medication should be discontinued, and it should also be temporarily suspended if renal function declines due to severe infections or surgeries. Patients with moderate or severe renal impairment, severe infections, acute heart failure, or certain metabolic disorders should not take this medication. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing mothers, and children under 10 years of age should not use this medication. When taking this medication, it is recommended to eat regularly, avoid vigorous exercise or excessive alcohol consumption, and be especially cautious if there are issues with liver or kidney function. This medication may cause side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, muscle pain, liver function abnormalities, and hypoglycemia, so if any unusual symptoms occur, you should consult a doctor immediately. In addition, there may be interactions with other medications, so you must inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medications you are taking, especially when used in conjunction with certain antibiotics, antifungals, or HIV treatments. The tablets should be swallowed whole without chewing or crushing, and regular blood sugar, liver, and kidney function tests should be performed. It may be necessary to discontinue the medication for a certain period before and after surgery, so follow the instructions of your healthcare provider. If you experience unusual muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, or other symptoms during treatment, contact a healthcare institution immediately.
