Precautions

This medication can rarely cause a serious metabolic complication known as lactic acidosis, which has been reported to result in fatalities. Caution is required if taken in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylurea medications as this can lead to severe hypoglycemia. If there are any muscle-related abnormalities or significant increases in creatine kinase levels, treatment should be stopped immediately as muscle pathology or rhabdomyolysis may be suspected. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe impaired renal function or acute conditions affecting renal function such as dehydration, severe infections, or acute myocardial infarction. It should also not be given to patients with acute and unstable heart failure, those scheduled for examinations using radioiodine contrast agents, patients with hypersensitivity to any component of this medication, patients with type 1 diabetes, or those with a history of lactic acidosis. Extreme caution should be exercised in certain patient groups such as those with severe infections, major trauma, during pre- and postoperative periods, malnutrition, liver disease, respiratory failure, pregnant or nursing women, and children under 10 years of age. Temporary discontinuation of treatment may be necessary if required. Regular monitoring of renal and liver function tests should be conducted during treatment, particularly in elderly patients or those with impaired renal function. This medication should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed, and alcohol consumption should be avoided as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so blood glucose levels and the patient's condition should be regularly monitored, and immediate notification to medical personnel is required if symptoms appear. If symptoms like muscle pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, or fever occur, medical consultation should be sought immediately, and discontinuation of the medication may be necessary if these symptoms are severe. This medication may interact with other drugs, so patients should inform their healthcare provider of any other medications they are taking, especially CYP3A4 inhibitors or certain antibiotics, antifungals, HIV protease inhibitors, etc. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraceptive methods. Nursing women should also avoid taking this medication, and safety and efficacy have not been established for children and adolescents under 18 years of age, so it should not be administered to them. In case of overdose, immediate medical attention should be sought for appropriate treatment, and this medication can be removed through hemodialysis. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container to prevent misuse or degradation of quality.
