Precautions

This drug can rarely cause a serious metabolic disorder called lactic acidosis; if symptoms appear, medical personnel should be notified immediately. In addition, caution is advised when used with other diabetes medications due to the risk of hypoglycemia. If muscle pain or weakness occurs, or if muscle-related test values increase, discontinue use of this drug and consult a physician. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, acute kidney problems, severe infections, or acute myocardial infarction should not use this medication. The medication should be discontinued for a certain period before and after surgery, and can be resumed only after kidney function is confirmed to be normal. It is contraindicated for use in pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, and children under 10 years of age. It is advised to avoid alcohol while taking this medication, and regular kidney and liver function tests should be conducted. If gastrointestinal disturbances, muscle pain, fatigue, or dizziness occur during use, consult medical personnel. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform medical personnel of any other medications being taken. Do not crush or chew the tablets; swallow them whole and keep them out of reach of children.
