Precautions

This medicine can rarely cause a condition called lactic acidosis, which can be very dangerous and may lead to death. Caution is required when used with insulin or sulfonylurea medications for diabetes treatment, as severe hypoglycemia can occur. If any muscle-related problems occur, this medicine must be discontinued immediately, especially if muscle pain or muscle damage is suspected. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, acute heart failure, or severe infection should not use this medicine. Before and after tests using iodine contrast agents, the administration of this medicine should be temporarily discontinued and can be restarted after renal function returns to normal. Administration should also not be done in cases of allergic reactions to this medicine or specific metabolic disorders. Before and after surgery, in patients with poor nutritional status or severe liver dysfunction, and in pregnant or breastfeeding women, this medicine should not be used. The safety of this medicine has not been confirmed in children, so it is not administered to those under 18. In elderly patients, renal impairment is common, making dosage adjustment and renal function testing important, and it is advisable not to use the maximum dose. Alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment, and if meal patterns are irregular or physical activities are excessive, the risks of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may increase. Drug interactions can occur when used with other medications, so anyone taking other medicines should inform their doctor or pharmacist. This medicine should be swallowed whole and not broken or chewed, and blood glucose, renal function, liver function, and muscle status should be regularly monitored for abnormalities. If symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, or fever occur, medical staff should be notified immediately. In cases of overdose, blood dialysis may be necessary, so adherence to the prescribed dosage is important. This medicine should be kept out of the reach of children and stored in its original container for safety.
