Improvement of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia
This medication assists dietary therapy for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia by helping to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels. It also increases HDL cholesterol levels and is expected to have a positive effect in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. It is used to improve the lipid status in the blood and maintain health.
For adults, the usual starting dose is 1 to 2 milligrams of pitavastatin calcium, taken once daily. If the decrease in LDL cholesterol levels is not sufficient, the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 4 milligrams per day. The dosage should be adjusted appropriately at intervals of 4 weeks or more based on therapeutic goals and patient response.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients who are allergic to this medication, those with severely impaired liver function, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and children. Moreover, patients with kidney or liver dysfunction or myopathy, as well as the elderly, should exercise caution when using this medication. Particularly, if taken with other specific medications, serious side effects such as muscle damage or worsening kidney function may occur, so a consultation with a physician is essential. This medication may cause various side effects including muscle pain, fatigue, liver function abnormalities, digestive disorders, and skin rashes; any unusual symptoms should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately. Routine liver function tests should be conducted before and during treatment, and blood lipid levels should be continuously monitored. If the treatment is ineffective or if the side effects are severe, the medication may need to be discontinued. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and breastfeeding women should also refrain from using it. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, so it is not used in this population. When storing, keep it out of reach of children and in the original container to maintain quality. Finally, this medication helps to lower cholesterol levels, so it is advisable to first attempt non-drug treatments such as dietary changes and exercise before use.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to light, so it should be stored in a sealed container that blocks light. Additionally, it is safe to store the medication at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius.
